My Spanish Ain't So Good

My Spanish is not bueno.  Not bueno in the least.  And that's ok.  Because ...

I'm good enough.  I'm smart enough and, doggone it, I'm going to Spain anyway!

In less than 72 hours I'll be on a very long flight to London.  And, yes, I know London is not Spain.  However, it is where I will meet up with two amazing friends who I haven't seen in ages (one lives in London and the other lives in Australia) and possibly grab a pint with one of my favorite couples who recently relocated to the land of the Queen Mum.

After the London rendezvous, my trio of ladies will then head to Spain.  Southern coast of Spain.  Beaches.  Cocktails.  No cell phone.  No computer.  No Internet!!!

Oh God ... I'm salivating at the thought of being completely separated from technology!

Spain is not on my bucket of list of places to visit but I'm giddy as a kid in a candy store to reconnect with my wonderful friends, see new sites, read a book, and lay on the beach.  The icing on the cake is not being connected to electronics for over a week.  Heaven on Earth!

And please don't think I'm sugar coating this blog posting.  I do plan on speaking enough Spanish to get me into trouble.  It is the only way I can justify all of the glorious stories that will flow from this trip.  I imagine the stories will start off with "I meant to say 'Where is the main street?' and I actually said 'Do you kiss your goat with that mouth?'"

Happy Anniversary

My blog has turned a year old.  Oh joy!  It is now eating solid foods and officially off the teat.

This past year has seen highs and lows but I find a lot of joy in looking back and reading my postings.  From my drug induced stupor surrounding my tonsillectomy to delicious recipes to exploring new adventures.

Things are just getting started, too!  So many more stories to post.  My baby blog is growing into a toddler.  Get ready for my maturity into the blogging terrible twos and potty training.

Gosh!  So much fun to be had!

Vulcan Syndrome

Last Friday I went out drinking with my co-workers.  It got wild.  It got crazy.  It got ... numb.
No joke.

At some point during the evening I started to realize that my left ring finger and left pinky finger were going numb.  My first thought, "I'm having a heart attack!"  My second thought, "Am I wearing clean underwear?!"

Thankfully, the answers were: no and yes.  In that order.

A quick scan of the Internet found the culprit ... ulnar nerve compression.  Sounds pretty sexy.  But it ain't.  It means that I rest my chin on my left hand while I'm working causing that nerve to get pinched.

Don't worry!  There are exercises I can do to get rid of the numbness.  I started doing them as soon as possible.  And I do them three times a day.  One time I did them at the gym (awkward) and another time at the grocery store (clean up on aisle three).

Thankfully, there is no heart attack.  However, the Internet didn't say anything about turning into a Vulcan.

Pin This Posting

You might be asking yourself, "What did Julie do on her birthday weekend?"  Most people think I got wild and crazy.  Which would entail cocktails, random dancing, thinking I can sing, and losing my lunch on the grass.

Folks, that is unladylike.  Besides, I did that the week before at a conference.

Instead, I did what any 30-something-year-old would do.   I looked at Pinterest.

It was the best gift I could have ever given myself.  My day job has acquired a lot of my time and it leaves little room to look at other people's ridiculous crafts, wedding ideas for a wedding they'll never have, food dishes that they will never cook, and outfits that they'll never wear.  Pinterest is my holy land of creative junk that makes me happy and doesn't burn too many calories to explore.  I can play with friends by posting ideas to their boards and I can judge people from the comfort of my couch.

Maybe I should create a board for my future crazy birthday weekends (that I'll never get around to actually doing because I'll be too busy on Pinterest next year on my birthday.)

Adventures in Working from Home

I am holed up at home working on projects with looming deadlines.  Working from home has provided me insight into three things:
  1. It is not nearly as fun as it sounds.
  2. My floors are dirty.
  3. I like shooting the breeze with my co-workers.  The dog just ain't cutting it.  He thinks when I talk to him that I want him in my face, on my lap or we are going outside.
Ok, No. 3 is kind of like my co-workers.
